On Monday the governor of California Gavin Newsome outlined a wildfire and emergency preparedness budget, CBS's KPIX reports. This announcement comes as the state deals with a busy start to the fire season and a drought that has created dangerous fire conditions in many areas of the state.
“Clearly we recognize we need to step up our efforts here in the state of California and that’s what we began to do early this year,” Newsome said Monday.
The state legislature must first approve the proposed budget.
